Tip: #693 - One page summary of color schemes
Created: April 6, 2004 18:33 Complexity: basic Author: Maverick Woo Version: 6.0 Karma: 898/303 Imported from: Tip#693
With so many color schemes on vim.org to choose from, sometimes it's hard to decide which one(s) to use. I have created a page to show off all the color schemes that I have downloaded from here. Hopefully this page will be useful to the rest of the vim community.
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~maverick/VimColorSchemeTest/
The page will be updated as I collect more color schemes.

Well done. This would probably be a good resource to have on vimDoc!

Nice. Thanks a lot. It would be great if the review could be divided into dark and light background parts.

Absolutely awsome page. I've been wanting to do my own color scheme since I don't care that much for the vim defaults. I found a near perfect scheme here plus this serves as great examples if I ever do create my own. Great Work!!!

Were these generated with the default syntax highlighting rules? There seems to be rather more highlighted in the C section than the default highlighting rules allow for (function and variable names, for instance).
Also, some of the examples seem utterly unconnected from the highlighting rules they link to. In the C section, the example shown for turbo.vim is completely different from what is specified by the actual turbo.vim file it links to.

Ooh! Very very very useful page for such a paranoid as I am. Now I can choose the color scheme that satisfies me in all aspects.

Very useful!
It would be handy if they were all zipped into one file (for those who would like to archive them locally). But wget solved that problem. These saved me a _lot_ of time browsing various websites for color schemes.

Thanks very much for this, which helps one shop for colors before downloading.
Useful in a different way would be a local scheme chooser, a script that would step interactively through locally available color schemes.
Perhaps such a script would incorporate its own voting scheme where you can help you narrow down the selection to your favorite set.

Following several suggestions, now color schemes with dark and light background are separated into two sections. Enjoy.

C example replaced to show strings. Thanks. --maverick

Thanks for your work!
The next example code has less stuff in it, even though it does include strings. Personally I prefered the former.

Nice idea. It'd be nice if the links were to the script pages on this site instead of to your own local copies, though.
