Why Vim?[]

I want to use VIM since I want to edit text file faster than now. I heard that if I use VIM, I can edit text file much faster than now. Is there any body who can tell me why VIM can offer fast editing capability? Jamessungjin.kim 07:23, August 29, 2010 (UTC)

An experienced Vim user is either typing in text (in insert mode), or is able to enter commands to copy or change text (in normal mode). For example, in normal mode, typing yip will copy the current paragraph, whereas on any other editor, typing those keys would insert "yip" into the text. Typing yiw will copy the current word. You need to do some serious work to learn Vim, but it is worthwhile. See Tutorial for some initial ideas, and Category:Getting started for more. See Vim Tips Wiki:Community Portal for information about the Vim mailing list if you want to ask detailed questions. JohnBeckett 08:47, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
